If you’re anything like us, you’ve never understood the hate Anne Hathaway largely gets from many people. We got into this and admittedly uncovered the real reason.
There’s no denying that Anne Hathaway is one of the most successful actresses in the entire world.
She gets major roles in the biggest projects in Hollywood, she’s earning far beyond the wildest dreams of an average actor, and her charm and talent help her make any character she plays unique and unforgettable.
This begs the question, ‘Why are so many people hating on her?’
The number of negative headlines about Anne Hathaway is absurd; on social media, many people criticize her every move; there was even a trending hashtag #Hathahate online.
This seems way too overboard, considering that most of us never even knew the reason behind this hateful attitude.
Now, however, we have a theory or two.
It all started back in 2013 when Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for her outstanding performance in Les Misérables. At the ceremony, she was not feeling herself, still under the severe impact of her character in the movie.
When Anne got called to get on the stage to receive the award, she tried to fake being happy… And failed.
“I had to stand up in front of people and feel something I don’t feel, which is uncomplicated happiness. It’s an obvious thing, you win an Oscar and you’re supposed to be happy. I didn’t feel that way,” explained Anne to The Guardian.
The actress’s speech turned out far from what the audience expected from the Oscars winner, and the people decided she was being fake for acting fake.
“I felt wrong. <…> I tried to pretend that I was happy and I got called out on it, big time. That’s the truth and that’s what happened. It sucks. But what you learn from it is that you only feel like you can die from embarrassment, you don’t actually die,” shared the actress.
You might not believe us, but that’s pretty much it. A decade later, people are still mad at Anne Hathaway for… Not being happy at the Oscars ceremony in 2013.
Also, the news about her being overly picky when it comes to what she eats on the set has maybe added to the bunch — but it’s not like the bunch was supposed to even exist in the first place if you ask us.
