In the film, which is a crime thriller, James plays writer Stephen Elliot who while trying to write about a real life murder suffers from writer’s block and a reliance on the drug for which the film – and the memoir by Elliot – takes its name.
The murder, combined with his own demons, sees Elliot delve into the world or S&M will also examining his very tough childhood and relationship with his father (played by Ed Harris).
