Chelsea have reportedly submitted a ‘£70 million’ offer for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The Serbian forward has scored 23 goals in 62 games since signing for the Old Lady in January 2022, but is not thought to be happy at the club due to manager Massimiliano Allegri’s defensive approach.
Despite spending over £300 million in January on the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea failed to sign a genuine centre forward, and have struggled in front of goal.
Only three clubs have netted less league goals than them this season, and no player has scored more than nine across all competitions.
Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to take over as Chelsea boss next season, has prioritised signing a world class number nine at Stamford Bridge, and it appears the club may have made progress in finding one.
Chelsea have reportedly summited a £70 million bid for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic
Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to be appointed as Blues boss in the coming weeks, is keen to bring in a new striker
According to reports in ESPN, the Blues have submitted a £70m offer for Vlahovic, and have made him their ‘top priority’ this summer
Chelsea were keen on bringing in the Serbian before his move from Fiorentina last January, but were beaten to his signature by Juve.
They are expected to face competition again from the likes of Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, although Real Madrid are not believed to be in the race after deeming Vlahovic too expensive.
If he does join Stamford Bridge, the 23-year-old will be expected to make a big impact at a club that has slid to 12th in the Premier league table.
They have won just 11 Premier League games all season, and only one in their last 10.
Reflecting on this season and how his young squad can improve going forward after the Blues’ 1-0 loss to Man City on Sunday, caretaker boss Frank Lampard said: ‘Manchester City have not won three [Premier League titles] in a row through half intensity. They have had to work and work and work. The players have to understand that.
Chelsea sit 12th in the Premier League after winning just one of their once in their last 10 games
Caretaker manager Frank Lampard encouraged his players to ‘take personal responsibility’ for their futures
‘They have to take personal responsibility and say: “I want to be [Erling] Haaland or [Kevin] De Bruyne, I have to put in the work they have.”
‘It is something they have to strive towards. It is in their hands. I can’t say that how long it will take.
‘It is down to the players and the direction of the club. This Premier League is getting tougher.’
Chelsea will finish their season with tricky games against Manchester United on Thursday and Newcastle on Sunday.
