Kim Kardashian revealed that she cries herself ‘to sleep’ while opening up about the challenges of raising her four children in an upcoming podcast episode of On Purpose With Jay Shetty.
The SKIMS founder, 42, who showed off her edgy side while attending her son’s basketball game on Friday, shares North, nine, Saint, seven, Chicago, five and Psalm, four, with her ex-husband, Kanye West.
In an exclusive snippet obtained by People, the TV personality was asked by the host what her ‘vision’ of parenting was like in the past before kids versus ‘what is actually is.’
The reality star expressed, ‘Everyone says the days are long and the years are short, and that couldn’t be like a more true statement.’
She continued, ‘So, like, when you’re in it, I mean, especially when they’re babies and you’re feeding and there’s madness going on. It’s like full madness. It’s the best chaos though.’
Parenting: Kim Kardashian, 42, revealed that she cries herself ‘to sleep’ while opening up about the challenges of raising her four children in an upcoming podcast episode of On Purpose With Jay Shetty; seen earlier this month in NYC
‘Like, my mornings, you have no idea what is going on,’ Kim explained. ‘It’s like I always have to do one of my daughter’s hair, and it has to be perfect and it has to be a certain way.’
‘And then this one needs me to put his shoes on and they all need you. It’s like full crazy madness, cooking, running around. Like, it’s wild. That’s why I need my workout in the morning, just to like, prepare for the two hours of craziness.’
The media personality then reflected on parenthood and told Jay, ‘I’d say parenting is the thing that has taught me the most about myself. It has been the most challenging thing. There are nights I cry myself to sleep, like, “What just happened?” You know, with all the moods, all the personalities, and sometimes they’re fighting.’
She explained that, ‘There’s no one there. Like, it’s me to play good cop and bad cop. So, like, that is definitely a challenge,’ and admitted that she was ‘working on being a little bit firmer.’
Kim continued to open up candidly and admitted to Jay that, ‘There’s nothing that can prepare you. Anyone, any person that says, “Oh, we’re waiting to have ‘x’ amount of money in the bank” or “Oh, we’re waiting to have a home before we have kids”…you are never prepared.’
However, despite the challenges when it comes to parenting, the star positively stated, ‘You will figure it out. And it will make you so proud of yourself-that you figured it out and that you got through the day.’
While the mother of four admitted to the hardships that raising a family could bring, she also revealed how rewarding it can be.
‘It teaches you so much more about yourself than I think anyone, any parent, could have ever anticipated.’

Raising her children: The SKIMS founder shares North, nine, Saint, seven, Chicago, five and Psalm, four, with her ex-husband, Kanye West
‘I mean, there is nights where you don’t wash your hair for days as a mom, and you have spit up all over you, and you’re wearing the same pajamas…and there’s just nothing that can prepare you for this experience.’
‘It is the most challenging, rewarding job on his planet,’ The Kardashians star concluded.
Kim tied the knot with the Flashing Lights rapper in 2014, and throughout the course of their marriage, welcomed two daughters: North and Chicago, as well as two sons: Saint and Psalm.
However, in February 2021, the media star filed for divorce from the performer, which was later finalized late last year in November.
In December 2022, the businesswoman became emotional while talking about the difficulties of co-parenting while appearing on the Angie Martinez IRL podcast. She opened up about ‘protecting’ her children as well as protecting her ex-husband.
‘In my home, my kids don’t know anything that goes on,’ she explained, referencing to Kanye’s past public outbursts. ‘I’m holding on my a thread. I know I’m so close to that not happening. But while it’s still that way, I will protect that to the end of the Earth for as long as I can.’
The mother of four teared up as she discussed their public divorce and compared the lives of her children to hers being raised by late attorney Robert Kardashian.
Kim was crying as she said, ‘I had the best dad. I don’t want to get emotional. It has just been a day for me. It’s hard. S**t, like co-parenting it’s really f***ing hard you know.’

Getting candid: In December 2022, the businesswoman became emotional while talking about the difficulties of co-parenting while appearing on the Angie Martinez IRL podcast
Angie said that Kim was not co-parenting with the ‘quietest, easiest’ former partner.
Kim replied: ‘Yeah, but I had the best dad and I had the best memories and the greatest experience and that’s all I want for my kids. As long as they can have that, that’s what I would want for them, you know.
‘So like if they don’t know things that are being said or what’s happening in the world like why would I ever bring that energy to them. You know, that’s like real heavy, heavy grown up s**t. That they are not ready to, like, deal with.’
‘And when they are we will have those conversations and I’ll be so prepared but until then I will do anything to keep their life as normal as possible.’
Kim said she will be prepared when her children do ask about Kanye’s public outbursts but for now she is remaining silent. She later said, ‘One day my kids will thank me for sitting here and not bashing their dad when I could,’ she told host Angie Martinez.
‘All the crazy s**t. They’ll thank me and I’ll privately answer anything that they want to know. It’s not my place anymore to jump in.’
The star, who recently celebrated her son, Psalm’s fourth birthday earlier this month, has been keeping busy ahead of the podcast episode’s release.
She was spotted spending time in the Big Apple to promote the opening of her SKIMS pop-up shop at Rockefeller Center on Tuesday.
