Kyrie Irving has had a solid year with the Brooklyn Nets, averaging 26.2 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and 4.7 APG for the team. There’s no doubt that he has been a solid No. 2 option behind Kevin Durant, and there is a chance that he will make an All-NBA team this year if he keeps up his elite performances.
Even though the Brooklyn Nets are a solid team as of right now, there is a chance that they don’t re-sign Kyrie Irving at the end of the season. In fact, NBA analyst Howard Beck of Sports Illustrated recently predicted that Kyrie Irving will end up on the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency.
The Nets seem content to finish this season with their current core, including the perpetual distraction in the No. 11 jersey. But this is now an all-or-nothing campaign. Unless the Nets win it all, it’s hard to see them re-signing Irving next summer. It’s also hard to see much of a market for him, given his recent history. We do know LeBron James would welcome a reunion, though.
Kyrie Irving would obviously be a fantastic addition to the Los Angeles Lakers, and he should be a great No. 3 option behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis. His perimeter shooting and shot creation would definitely make the Lakers’ offense more dynamic.
Kyrie Irving Has Been Linked With The Los Angeles Lakers Since The Start Of The Season
The Los Angeles Lakers have clearly had a longstanding interest in Kyrie Irving. In fact, the interest was clearly mutual at one point. At the start of the season, Stephen A. Smith revealed that Kyrie Irving’s plan is to go to the Los Angeles Lakers, rather than re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets.
Kyrie’s not re-signing with Brooklyn. Kyrie’s planning to go to Los Angeles. He’s trying to go to Los Angeles. That’s what he wanted to do during the summer, that’s what he’s trying to do now.
It remains to be seen if this does come to pass, and things can change very quickly in the NBA. We could still see Kyrie Irving re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets. However, it is clear that the Los Angeles Lakers are at least at the back of his mind. It is hard to see Kyrie Irving leave Kevin Durant as of right now, especially since the two comprise one of the best duos in the league.
As of right now, Kyrie Irving’s focus is on finishing this current season with the Brooklyn Nets. They are a fantastic team as of right now, and there is a good chance that they can make it to the NBA Finals. Kyrie Irving will be crucial in that happening, and we’ll see how he does when playoff time comes around.
