Arsenal have been charged by the FA for failing to ensure players “conducted themselves in an orderly fashion” in stoppage time of Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle United.
Mikel Arteta’s players were adamant that they should have been awarded a penalty in the 95th minute when Granit Xhaka’s cross struck the arm of Jacob Murphy inside Newcastle’s box.
Desperate for a chance to win the game at the death, the majority of the team including Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Thomas Partey, Alex Zinchenko, Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka confronted referee Andy Madley about the incident. Their claims were eventually dismissed following a VAR review.
After the match, Arteta said the decision, along with an earlier failure to award a penalty to Gabriel Magalhaes who was wrestled to the ground while challenging for a corner, was “scandalous”.

It is the second time this season the Gunners have breached FA Rule E.20.1. We were also charged for our behaviour in the dying moments of the 1-0 win at Leeds United. On that occasion, we were arguing, correctly as it turned out, that a penalty should not have been rewarded.
The club has until Tuesday to appeal the latest charge.

Arsenal and Chelsea are both in a transfer battle over Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk this January as they look to bolster their squads with quality signings
The agent of Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk – Alexey Alekhin – has discussed the possibility of a transfer exit for the 22-year-old amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea this January. The two London clubs are currently entwined in a battle for the promising forward’s signature.
The saga surrounding the Ukraine international has spanned months, with the Gunners targeting a transfer deal in the summer but missing out. Instead, attention moved towards January, with plenty of discussions surrounding a switch as a “priority” for the North London side.
Mudryk has also dropped plenty of hints over wearing red in the near future. In an interview with Vlada Zinchenko – wife of Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko – on YouTube, Mudryk opened up on his admiration for Arsenal.
When asked which teams he thinks are playing ‘nice’ football this season, he responded: “Napoli, they’re playing really well at the moment with some great players, Bayern, Man City and Arsenal.”
He then followed up by admitting that he checks the side’s results regularly, saying: “Yeah. I check on them in ‘myscore’ and know when they’re playing I can check on them.” However, following two rejected bids from Arsenal, there have been plenty of talks surrounding a switch to Chelsea instead.
Shakhtar chief Darijo Srna was spotted at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening, apparently ahead of talks with Todd Boehly over a switch for Mudryk.
With there being something of a limbo in the current progress, the star’s agent has spoken out on a transfer, telling Sport Arena: “Mudryk is a Shakhtar player and the decision on his transfer will be made by the board of the club. Mykhaylo is now preparing to go with Shakhtar to the training camp.”
It remains to be seen exactly how this saga will end, but with plenty of weeks left in the window, there are more twists and turns expected.
