Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has revealed a line that was originally supposed to be in the Netflix series that she chose to omit – and fans couldn’t be happier that it was avoided.
Ever since the Addams Family-based show landed on the streaming platform, it’s taken the world by storm, with viewers loving the lead star’s deadpan portrayal of the beloved character.
One of the most famous scenes from the programme has undoubtedly been Jenna’s innovative dance solo, delivering her best 80s-inspired goth moves to Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps while wearing a stunning black lace dress.
According to the 20-year-old, she originally had a line in the script that would have demonstrated just how much Wednesday loved the dress after spotting it in a shop window and having it stolen for her by her close companion Thing, a disembodied hand.
While speaking during a Netflix Q&A, she said: ‘I remember there’s a line where I’m talking about a dress and initially she was supposed to say: “Oh my God I’m freaking out over a dress, I literally hate myself.”’
‘And I was blown away because that sounded like… it was just a bunch of little things like that. I felt like we were able to avoid a lot of dialogue in an attempt to make her sound human.’
As anyone who’s watched Wednesday will be well-aware, the main character isn’t one to ‘freak out’ over a dress, nor admit to such a feeling.
Several people on TikTok who saw a clip of Jenna’s interview talking about the cut line in question agreed that it was right it was removed.
‘They gotta let jenna into the writers room for season 2,’ one person remarked, while another said: ‘Gotta give credits to actors who know their characters better than the writers sometimes.’

‘I’m glad they didn’t add this. I think her just staring at the dress in the window and Thing getting it for her was enough of a reaction,’ another said.
‘Can we get Jenna in the writers room next season lmao,’ one person commented, with another adding: ‘Nahhh i called it cause why could I tell Jenna was avoiding the bad lines.’
Following the release of Wednesday, Jenna opened up about her viral dance scene and how she choreographed it herself.

‘I watched videos of Siouxsie and the Banshees… I found archival footage of Goth kids dancing in clubs in the 80s… just anything that I could get my hands on. And then on the day, I thought, “Alright, well, I’m just gonna do it,”’ she said.
The actress added: ‘I paid homage to Lisa Loring, the first Wednesday Addams, I did a little bit of her shuffle that she does. And of course, they cut out of camera when I did do it. But it’s there – I know it is.’
Wednesday is available to watch on Netflix.
