Italian outlet CMW claim Manchester City defender Sergio Gomez is a surprise target for Juventus this month as the Serie A giants look to replace Alex Sandro, who may decide not sign a new deal with the Old Lady – for a fee of £35m.
Gomez, 22, joined Manchester City in the summer for a fee of around £11.5m. But the Spaniard has only played 11 times for City, remaining an unused substitute for City in their last eight Premier League matches. He is struggling.
His form at Anderlecht was incredible. From left-back, he had a hand in 22 goals in 50 appearances. So, clearly, a huge talent that City have signed for a modest fee. But while it might have been easily predicted, Gomez is not playing.
CMW say Juventus are ready to try and take advantage of that. With Sandro out of contract, Juventus are looking at signing a left-back either this month – or in the summer. City would be willing to sell Gomez for a fee of £35m.
MANCHESTER CITY DEFENDER GOMEZ A SURPRISE £35M TARGET FOR JUVENTUS
Gomez will be delighted to be at a club like Manchester City. But given the sale of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, the defender would have expected to play more than just 11 times – only six of which have been in the starting line-up.
So, if Juve do come calling, you would expect that Gomez may be keen to move to Italy. A big club, fighting for titles in Serie A. If they can promise Gomez that he would be first choice, with Sandro going, then he has to jump at that move.
Manchester City will be keen to keep Gomez at The Etihad. He has the potential to be a long-term option for them in the starting line-up. But if City want to keep him, they need to show why. He deserves more game time at City.
Claim player ‘has chosen’ Manchester City as next destination – ‘Convinced’ it’s right move for him
Already catching the eye of more than one Premier League club before the World Cup, Josko Gvardiol showed the world why so many were after him during the competition.
The defender was one of his nation’s stars in Qatar, and while he did get turned around by Lionel Messi, he wasn’t the first and probably won’t be the last.
Manchester City were one of the clubs after the Croatian, and while Chelsea and others have also taken a strong interest in the centre-back, it’s Pep Guardiola’s side who have the advantage.
At least, that’s what Media Foot in France are reporting, who explain that the Cityzens ‘lead the pack’ of suitors to sign the RB Leipzig star.
The reason for that is because ‘Gvardiol and those close to him are convinced’ Manchester City are the ones able to ‘give him the game time and the international explosion’ waiting for him.
They even go as far as saying in their headline that the defender ‘has chosen’ a move to the Etihad above the others, giving Guardiola a huge boost in the race.
Still, the tough part remains, and that’s Manchester City needing to convince Leipzig of selling their star, for whom they seemingly want over €100m.
