Abuser began trending on Twitter Wednesday as users recount the actor’s alleged assault on ex-wife Angelina Jolie and their children.
Brad Pitt was basking in glory at last night’s Golden Globes ceremony.
The Babylon actor got several shout-outs from both the red carpet and the stage—Babylon co-star Margot Robbie, Elvis’ Austin Butler, and Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson all raved about Pitt at the Tuesday night awards show. Even those who didn’t mention Pitt still fawned over the Bullet Train and Blonde star, snapping selfies with him throughout the night.
With all the adoration being showered on Pitt by his fellow celebs, it’s hard to imagine that this could be the same man that was publicly accused of abusing his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, and their children only months ago—but it is, and Twitter says Hollywood has moved on from the allegations far too fast.
“The fact that they’re willing to throw away f—ing Angelina Jolie over this man shows that no matter how mediocre a man is, as long as he was hot 25 years ago, he will always be put on a pedestal. Absolutely shameful,” one user wrote.
Unwilling to complacently let celebs celebrate Pitt, #BradPittIsAnAbuser began trending on Twitter Wednesday as users came armed with receipts.
Quoting a Tweet that claimed Brunson’s acknowledgment of Pitt was “a MOOD,” another user recounted graphic details from the court filing of the alleged 2016 incident, writing: “Jolie says Pitt grabbed her by the head and shook her, choked one child and struck another in the face.”
Someone else responded with a highlighted scan of the 53-page filing, which lays out more horrifying details of the alleged abuse against Jolie and their young children (who were between 8-15 at the time).
Abuse Accusations Mark Pattern of Alleged Apathy to Assault from Pitt
The Weinstein CompanySome pointed out that Pitt’s glorification at the Golden Globes is just a symptom of a bigger problem. In fact, Pitt himself has allegedly glossed over abuse allegations in the past, choosing to work with convicted predator Harvey Weinstein after Jolie confided to her husband that the producer had assaulted her.
“A reminder that Angelina told Brad Pitt that Harvey Weinstein assaulted her, and Brad went on to support him and work with the man who assaulted his wife,” another user shared, adding that Pitt allegedly also dismissed assault accusations against Weinstein from actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Though Pitt has not faced formal charges in the incident, it’s not like it would necessarily matter to Hollywood—Weinstein was a well-known predator for over 30 years but saw continued successes in the industry until 2017’s #MeToo movement heralded his hard fall from public grace.
