Real Madrid’s defeat at the hands of Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final brought to the front another issue, and it is the fact that their midfield on the day simply could not keep up with that of their Catalan rivals. Both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have seemed sluggish in recent games, while Aurelien Tchouameni’s absence through injury certainly played its part in their struggles in the middle of the park.
The fact of the matter is that Real Madrid could do with another reliable option there in the future, and Jude Bellingham appears to have been earmarked as their transfer priority for the summer transfer window.
Of course, Real Madrid are not the only club to be linked with Bellingham. The likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are also believed to be after his signature.
But there seems to be another twist in the tale, as it looks like Borussia Dortmund are keen to extend Bellingham’s contract. As Patrick Berger tweeted out:
#BVB want Bellingham to stay but a fee of €150m could be a pain barrier. The Bundesliga side actually want to make him to a top earner + extend contract. But first Borussia want to know what the 19yo himself wants: If he said he can imagine to stay, BVB would make an offer. 🟡
Unexpected twist in €150 million Real Madrid transfer chase for Bellingham
Initially, the belief had been that Borussia Dortmund were ready to let Bellingham leave next summer but now, it looks like they will try to extend his contract and keep him at the club, if the Englishman wants to stay.
Of course, it still looks like a transfer bid of €150 million could do the trick and seal the signing of Bellingham next summer.
It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid are willing to make that kind of an offer for Bellingham though. There have been conflicting reports in the media and nothing seems certain for now, except the fact that Los Blancos want to sign the English midfielder.
Bellingham has the potential to be the best midfielder on the planet in the future, and thus, it is not hard to understand why so many top clubs are after him.
