The Pacifistas won’t just listen to anybody. Who exactly has control over these little war machines?
One of the things that make One Piece amazing are the various kinds of devil fruits that have been introduced in the series. Every devil fruit that Oda has created is a reflection of his creativity. So far, more than a hundred devil fruits have been introduced in the series, and no two devil fruits (excluding artificially created ones) are 100% similar to each other.
In certain cases, there is a stronger variant and a weaker variant, and in others, there is a difference in terms of the forms a person can take. Sadly, the scientific element that Oda adds to the story gets lost among all these powers. However, after the Seraphim were introduced, things started to change.
The Greatest Creation
The Seraphim have been created by Dr. Vegapunk. The work on the project started before the time skip, and it initially resulted in the creation of the Pacifista. Using the body of Bartholomew Kuma as the base model, Vegapunk created multiple cyborgs. However, these clones did not have a consciousness, and they were used by the Marines rather recklessly. A large number of Pacifista were deployed during the Summit War, and they caused a massive panic among the pirates. Aside from the big names, the lesser-known pirates were no match for them. At that time, no one would have thought these weapons could be upgraded and turned into something much stronger.
The new and improved form of these Pacifista didn’t make their debut until after the Wano Country arc. When Koby and the other Marines went to Amazon Lily to capture Boa Hancock, they relied on the help of Seraphim. These monsters created by Vegapunk required a great deal of effort and a massive amount of money to build, due to which the Marines and everyone else are extremely cautious not to do something that would cause them severe damage. In the Egghead Island arc, Vegapunk explained how he created the Seraphim by taking the Lunarian Lineage Factor and combining it with that of the others.
The Strongest Form of Humanity
The Seraphim are ridiculously strong. They are capable of taking on the likes of Blackbeard, Boa Hancock, Rob Lucci, etc. Despite all the skirmishes that they have been involved in, the Seraphim have yet to suffer any kind of injury. When these weapons left Amazon Lily, the Boa Sisters remarked how they hadn’t received a single wound. Physically, the Seraphim are capable of overpowering most of the characters in the series. A single slash from S-Hawk was enough to slice off the mountain on Amazon Lily, which is another huge testament to their physical powers.
In addition to their ridiculous strength, the Seraphim are also armed with devil fruits. S-Bear has Kuma’s Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, S-Snake has Hancock’s Mero Mero no Mi, and S-Shark has Senor Pink’s Sui Sui no Mi. S-Hawk also has a devil fruit, but he has yet to use it in a fight. The Seraphim seem to have complete mastery over their devil fruits, as demonstrated in the Egghead Island arc when S-Shark successfully combined his Sui Sui no Mi into his fighting style.
The Pacifista Command Hierarchy
The Pacifista Command Hierarchy is simply the chain of command that is capable of ordering the Seraphim. As weapons of destruction, it is obvious that they have been programmed to obey orders by various individuals. At the top of the chain are the Five Elders, who are also considered to be sovereigns of the World Government. They are followed by Dr. Vegapunk and his six satellites. Below him is Sentomaru, and the reason behind his inclusion is quite simple. As Vegapunk’s personal bodyguard, it was obvious that he was going to enjoy some kind of privilege. Finally, at the bottom are the individuals with the “Authority Chips.”
Due to being at the bottom of the chain, their commands can be overruled by the other three groups that are ranked higher. This was demonstrated during the Egghead Island arc, when the Seraphim listened to Sentomaru instead of obeying the orders of CP0. Another key detail about being able to control the Seraphim is that they cannot take orders via a transponder snail. All orders must be given in person, and if the individual with the highest authority is knocked out, then the command falls to the lower ones. This was the main reason why Rob Lucci attacked Sentomaru, as he believed knocking him out would ensure CP0’s victory.
What Role Will The Seraphim Play?
At the moment, only four Seraphim have been revealed, but it is completely reasonable to assume that there are even more; after all, there were seven Shichibukai. For the time being, it is unclear where the other Seraphim are being kept. Considering the power of the Seraphim, they have to be used very carefully. Under the command of the wrong people, they could cause widespread destruction.
It is possible that the Seraphim will stay with CP0 unless one of Vegapunk’s satellites decides to step in and orders them to leave the island with the Straw Hats, although it seems foolish to take such a big risk, especially when they can escape without their help. As it stands, there is no doubt that the Seraphim will be involved in the upcoming battles in One Piece, and depending on which side they are on, they can drastically alter the result.
