Mbappe collapsed in pain, the burden at PSG fell on Messi’s shoulders

Mbappe’s injury makes Messi the only hope of PSG in the upcoming Champions League match against Bayern.

Kylian Mbappe just had a very bad day against Montpellier when he missed 2 consecutive penalties and didn’t come in. More unlucky, the French star was also forced to leave the field because of an injury after a foul by midfielder Léo Leroy in the 21st minute.

Mbappe then entered the dressing room limping with a painful grimace. The image recorded by Canal+ television also shows the voice of number 7 lamenting, “I’m in so much pain” when asked by medical staff.

The severity of the injury is unknown, but it is certainly bad news for PSG. Because ahead of them will be a trip to Marseille in the National Cup, meeting Monaco in Ligue and most importantly, the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Bayern Munich.

There are about 2 weeks left until the big battle and Mbappe will have to race against time to return in time. In the past, the 24-year-old striker once missed the second leg of the C1 semi-final against Manchester City in the 2020/21 season due to injury. That match PSG lost 0-2.

Without Mbappe, it would be a huge loss for PSG because he is the club’s number one striker this season with 25 goals in all competitions. 7 of them are in the C1 Cup, the most in the tournament.

Mbappe’s injury is a huge loss for PSG in a stressful period of the season

Not only Mbappe, another PSG star who is also having problems is Neymar. No. 10 did not appear in the last match against Montpellier. He is also not in the best condition both physically and mentally since the 2022 World Cup.

In the event that both Mbappe and Neymar cannot recover or regain their best state in the match against Bayern, Messi will be the only hope to shoulder PSG’s attack at this time. Since the beginning of the season, M10 has scored 28 goals for the French club (14 goals and 14 assists).

If Mbappe and Neymar do not recover in time, Messi will have to carry PSG alone to face Bayern

Messi’s level is undisputed but even he is being questioned about his form after returning from the World Cup. Before scoring against Montpellier last night, El Pulga had lost 2 matches in a row. He even received a score of 6.0 in a disappointing draw against Reims last week, his lowest since joining PSG.

Returning to Ligue 1, PSG will have 2 days of rest before going to Toulouse – the opponent is only ranked 12th in the next round. This will be an opportunity for Messi and possibly Neymar to regain his best feeling while Mbappe has to recuperate. The highest goal is still the Champions League but they have a lot of work ahead of them.
