The Marines are a powerful organization in One Piece and they are known to be the World Government’s military face. Responsible for upholding justice, the Marines are often pitted against the pirates. The population of such pirates boomed after the death of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, and the beginning of the Great Pirate Era.
Over the years, some of the most incredible talents in One Piece‘s world have risen through the ranks of the Marines. At the same time, some terrific additions have been made over the course of the series’ run, making them as powerful as they are today.
20 Tashigi Aims For Greatness
Tashigi is an underling of Vice Admiral Smoker and a powerful swordswoman in her own right. She aims to collect all the named swords from pirates by defeating them one by one. She is quite an incredible character and one who is often forced to face her weakness and conquer it to grow stronger. Currently, she holds the same rank as Koby and that is of a Marine Captain.
She is also a skilled user of Haki and can use both the Color of Observation and Armament. In the Punk Hazard arc, her control over these powers wasn’t refined enough, however. It must be noted that a lot of time has passed since then and she is currently most certainly much stronger than she was in the past.#
19 Koby Is A Hero
Koby, also known as the Hero, is one of the members of the secret navy unit, SWORD, that was recently introduced to the fans during the Wano Country arc. The fact that he has been enlisted in this secret unit is a testament to his strength, given that not many are considered for this secret organization. Koby is an underling of X-Drake, which is close to show that he is strong indeed. At the same time, he has also made quite a name for himself as the Hero, just like his mentor, Garp.
18 John Giant Has Great Might
John Giant is a Vice Admiral of the Navy and was introduced to the fans during the Marineford arc for the very first time. As his name indicates, he is a giant from the land of Elbaf who was enrolled in the Navy a long time ago. John Giant found his way to the Navy thanks to Mother Carmel, who trafficked and sold him to the Navy.
Despite his sad past, he continues to fight for the Marines and in the Paramount War, he even clashed against Whitebeard, only to be knocked out by a mighty quake punch. That said, John Giant possesses strength that the Navy have coveted for centuries and, as a Vice Admiral, he possesses the ability to use both Armament and Observation Haki. He also wields a giant sword, however, his expertise in this art has not been seen properly.
17 Doll Is A Leader Of Ruffians
Doll is a Vice Admiral who was recently introduced to the fans in the Egghead Island arc. She is a very capable member of the Marines as she has been chosen to represent the G-14 unit. Doll, being a Vice Admiral, should be a capable user of Haki. Her rank alone means that she is a user of both Armament and Observation Haki, which makes her incredibly powerful. She seems to have a fiery personality and if that is anything to go by, Doll should be a very capable fighter.
So far, fans have not seen her in combat, however, given that she has been introduced very late into the story with a prestigious rank within the Navy, it is highly likely that she is more than skilled enough to fight against elite pirates of the New World. Whether she possesses a Devil Fruit or not remains to be seen.
16 Onigumo Is A Powerful Marine Vice-Admiral
Onigumo is one of the Vice-Admirals of the Navy who was properly introduced to the fans during the Paramount War saga of the story. As a Vice-Admiral, Onigumo is quite powerful and knows two types of Haki, both Armament and Observation Haki.
Onigumo also has a Devil Fruit power that allows him to produce hairy arms from his back that turn him into a spider. With this power, he uses his famous Eight-Sword Style, as seen during the Marineford arc of the story.
15Momonga Survived The Calm Belt
Momonga is a powerful Vice-Admiral, just like Onigumo, but one that fans have seen slightly more of. Momonga is a user of some of the Rokushiki arts, as seen during the Marineford arc. His skill with a sword is known to be great enough to push back some pirates from the New World.
Momonga is also an exceptionally skilled user of Haki and just like Onigumo, he knows both Armament and Observation Haki, which is one of the many reasons why he survived in the Calm Belt for quite a while.
14Chaton Is A Strong Marine
Another Vice-Admiral, Chaton is a character that fans know little about. Being a Vice-Admiral, Chaton is strong enough to use the two basic Haki types but he is much more special than that.
During the timeskip, Chaton was being considered for the position of Admiral that was vacated by Akainu and Aokiji. This is a clear indication that his level of skill is certainly above the likes of the regular Vice Admirals, and is one of the many reasons why he is considered to be very powerful.
13 Momousagi Is As Strong As Chaton
Just like Chaton, Momousagi was also considered for the position of Admiral during the two-year timeskip. Although Momousagi wasn’t selected for the spot, the fact she even contended for this position proves that she is quite strong.
Momousagi’s abilities remain unknown, however, she is definitely a skilled user of Haki of at least two types, just like all the other Vice-Admirals out there. Her true abilities haven’t been seen in battle so far, however, she certainly ranks among the very strongest Marines in One Piece.
12 Smoker Rose Through The Ranks Quickly
Smoker is one of the Vice-Admirals of the Marines, and rose to this rank after the events of the Marineford War. Introduced back in Logue Town, Smoker was a Marine Captain who held the reputation of never letting a pirate escape from his grasp. After Luffy’s successful escape, he set out for the Grand Line and in doing so, gained a lot of power.
Smoker has the ability of the Logia type devil fruit Moku Moku no Mi, which allows him to control smoke and transform into it at will. He can also use Armament and Observation Haki, adding to his power.
11 X Drake, Member Of The Secret SWORD Force
X Drake is known to be one of the strongest pirates under Kaido; however, he’s actually a member of the Marines and serves as a Captain of the SWORD — the Marines’ Special Forces unit. Drake is currently fighting against Kaido and Big Mom’s forces on Onigashima alongside Luffy.
In terms of power power, Drake is a fearsome fighter who holds the rare ability of the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Allosaurus. He’s also a capable user of Haki, as expected of someone with his rank.
10 Sentomaru, One Of The Best Haki Users In The Marines
Making his debut during the Sabaody Archipelago arc, Sentomaru gained an official Marine rank after the two-year timeskip. Although his exact rank remains unnamed, he’s certainly one of the higher-ranking officials, as expected of someone of his strength.
Before the timeskip, he was revealed to be a very capable user of Ryou, which is an advanced form of Armament Haki. Over the years, his skill is likely to have improved, making him even more powerful now.
9 Tsuru Has Years Of Experience
Tsuru is one of the members of the old generation of the Marines who worked alongside the likes of Garp and Sengoku. Her era was the one where the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, sailed across the seas wreaking absolute havoc. In that era, Tsuru made quite a name for herself and that is a testament to her strength. She is also a user of an incredible Devil Fruit ability, called the Woshu Woshu no Mi, which allows her to wash anyone and hang them dry like a piece of cloth.
It is believed that the people she washes are washed off all their evil. While not much has been seen of her in action, she is a Vice Admiral of the Navy, meaning that she is a capable user of Armament and Observation Haki, at the very least. Another indication of her incredible strength is the fact that she chased Doflamingo throughout the New World when young. The young pirate would rather flee than face her in battle, which goes to show that she was truly a legendary fighter indeed. Right now, she’s likely not as strong as she once was, however, her legend lives on, just as it does for Garp and Sengoku, her two beloved comrades.
8 Ryokugyu, A New Admiral Of The Marines
After the Paramount War, the Marines required additional manpower to fill the two vacant positions left by Akainu and Aokiji. Ryokugyu was chosen as one of the members of the Three Admirals, through a World Military Draft.
Unfortunately, he hasn’t been seen in action yet. However, being an Admiral automatically makes him one of the strongest people in the story. Interestingly enough, he hasn’t eaten anything for three years, implying that he possesses a power that doesn’t require him to eat. It may be interesting to see where this power comes from in the future.
7 Fujitora Joined The Marines Alongside Ryokugyu
Fujitora made his debut in the Dressrosa arc as an Admiral of the Marines. Just like Ryokugyu, he was chosen for the position of an Admiral through a World Military Draft.
According to Donquixote Doflamingo, Fujitora is known to be a monster throughout the world. He wields the power of the Zushi Zushi no Mi, a formidable Devil Fruit which allows him to control gravity at will. Fujitora is also a capable user of Observation Haki, as seen during his fight against Sabo.
6 Kizaru, A Fearsome Admiral
One of the Three Admirals introduced before the timeskip, Kizaru is an incredibly powerful fighter. He possesses the power of the Logia-Type Pika Pika no Mi, which allows him to turn into light and attack with it according to his will.
This Devil Fruit power is one of the most fearsome in the entire story. When coupled with his great mastery over two Haki types, he’s a force to be reckoned with. Kizaru could hold off Marco during the Marineford War, and even fight Whitebeard to an extent.
5 Aokiji Was Almost On Par With Admiral Akainu
Aokiji was an Admiral of the Marines until after the events of the Paramount War. With the era changing, Sengoku deemed it best to pass on the mantle of the Fleet Admiral to him.
However, failing to defeat Akainu led to him leaving the organization. Nonetheless, Aokiji was a force to be reckoned with and could take on Akainu in an even battle for 10 days. His power of the Hie Hie no Mi made him a threat to anyone in the world, and his control over Haki was incredibly refined.
4Kong Is Among The Strongest Marines
Kong was the former Fleet Admiral of the Marines during the era of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. The likes of Sengoku and Garp worked under him, which just goes to show that he must’ve possessed tremendous strength himself.
Fleet Admiral is a position that not just anyone can attain. So far, only Sengoku and Sakazuki have obtained this role and both are strong enough to be considered among the top tiers of the One Piece world. In the Whole Cake Island arc, Mother Carmel claimed that if Big Mom joined the Navy, she was so strong that she could even end up becoming a Fleet Admiral, which gives fans an idea of how strong Kong must’ve been back in the day.
3Sakazuki, The Strongest Active Marine Right Now
Formerly known as Admiral Akainu, Sakazuki is currently the Fleet Admiral of the Marines, and acquired this position after beating Aokiji on Punk Hazard. As the Fleet Admiral, it goes without saying that he’s incredibly powerful.
Sakazuki has the power of the Magu Magu no Mi, which allows him to create magma and transform into it. During the Paramount War, Sakazuki could fight against Whitebeard for an extended period of time and even inflicted severe injuries on him.
2Sengoku, The Former Fleet Admiral
Sengoku of the Marines One PiecePrior to the events of the Paramount War, Sengoku was the Fleet Admiral of the Marines. This posting alone implies that he was monstrously powerful. With the power of the Mythical Zoan Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu, Sengoku could match even the strongest of pirates in his prime.
He’s also the only Marine so far to possess all three types of Haki. According to Roger, he gave him a great challenge, meaning the two were close in strength.
1Monkey D. Garp, The Strongest Marine
Luffy’s grandfather, Garp rules supreme as the strongest Marine in One Piece. Although just a Vice-Admiral, Garp’s strength surpasses that of all the Admirals in the story, as evident from the fact that he could fight the likes of Roger on an equal footing.
Garp’s control over Armament and Observation Haki made him a threat to any pirate in the world. His actions earned him the title of the “Hero of the Marines,” which is fully deserved considering his legacy.
Jewelry Bonney’s powers could hold a connection to one of the strongest pirates in One Piece, Big Mom.
Jewelry Bonney is one of the most important characters in One Piece’s ongoing Egghead Island arc. She is a member of the Worst Generation who was introduced to the fans before the 2-year timeskip of the story on the island of Sabaody Archipelago. Along with the other Supernovas, she was a pirate who had arrived on the island with a bounty of 100 million berries or higher. Hailing from the South Blue, Bonney made a name for herself as the Big Eater.
Since then, she has only gone on to become more powerful and currently, she is a successful pirate in the New World. More importantly, Bonney is exceptionally intriguing and both her past and her current life are full of mystery that fans know very little about. Her connection to Kuma, for example, is very curious. At the same time, another connection that Bonney might potentially have is to Big Mom, one of the Yonko of the Sea, who recently fell from her throne in the Wano Country arc, with Kaido. While no direct comparison has been made between the two, there are several hints that prove that could actually be a clone of Big Mom.
Bonney’s Past
To begin with, fans know very little about Bonney’s past. Until recently, all that fans knew about her was that she hailed from the South Blue from the Sorbet Kingdom and was either the dowager Queen and, as such, the wife of Bartholomew Kuma, or posing to be the dowager queen and was actually a blood relative of Kuma. In the Egghead Island arc, it was finally revealed that Bonney was Kuma’s very own daughter, however, this connection is rather curious. While Bonney certainly remembers spending her childhood with Kuma, all that fans know is that she had visited Vegapunk with him at a certain point. In fact, even her flashback memories that have been illustrated in small panels reveal her to be with Kuma in a lab, as evident from the fact that he was wearing a lab coat, which he only wore while being a patient of Dr. Vegapunk.
Bonney is also heavily indebted to Kuma himself and why this is the case isn’t known. After all, the two have been separated for years now and despite that, she is often seen acting as if she owes him a big favor. This favor could very well be the favor of life. Furthermore, there are no physical similarities between Bonney and Kuma and while that doesn’t necessarily mean that the two have nothing to do with each other genetically, it is also rather strange to a certain degree. At the same time, Kuma is also known to be from a unique race in the One Piece world and Bonney seems to show no signs of being anything other than a regular human at the moment.
Bonney And Big Mom
One character that Bonney has shown a lot in common with is Big Mom, down from her very physical appearance to her actual personality. For one, both Bonney and Big Mom have pink hair and while that is very common in the One Piece world, they also wear their makeup in similar ways. Furthermore, both Big Mom and Bonney express emotions in similar ways. Bonney is prone to wearing her heart on the sleeve and fans have seen that across Egghead Island. Big Mom, when younger, and even older to a certain extent, expresses her emotions very similarly.
RELATED:One Piece: Why Did Aokiji Resign From The Marines? What’s more, Bonney and Big Mom are both voracious eaters. Big Mom’s appetite is something that fans need no introduction to as they’ve already seen what she’s capable of throughout the post-timeskip of the story. Bonney is very similar to her and gets food cravings randomly. She has an incredible appetite and, as far as fans know, this has nothing to do with her Devil Fruit ability, which strictly concerns age manipulation.
The Devil Fruit powers of the two also are rather similar. While Big Mom can remove the lifespan of people from their bodies, Bonney can remove the age of people from their bodies. To add an even more connection to the two, the flag ship of the Big Mom pirates, the Queen Mama Chanter, and Bonney’s very own ship are very similar. In fact, Bonney stole one of her ships from Big Mom, potentially during the timeskip.
The fact that cloning is very much possible in the One Piece world means that Bonney could indeed be a creation from the lineage factor of the Yonko Big Mom. This also adds to the hypothesis that Kuma doesn’t want Bonney to look into his memories simply because he doesn’t want her to know her past and the fact that she isn’t a natural-born human. It is possible that Bonney was made artificially and was later raised by Kuma himself as his very own daughter. That said, given that the world of One Piece is incredibly massive, it is entirely possible that Bonney just bears a stark resemblance to Big Mom for no particular reason whatsoever. Either way, Oda will eventually deliver the answer to the fans and it will certainly be something worth it.
