The Denver Nuggets are on course to have one of the best seasons in franchise history, as they sit atop the standings in the Western Conference.
They are one of the favorites to get to the NBA Finals but Nick Young has made the bold claim that they’d be eliminated in the first round if they played the Los Angeles Lakers.
Well, the Lakers did beat the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals back in 2020 but the teams have trended in opposite directions since then. Still, the Lakers have proven to be a tough matchup for them and have split the season series 2-2 this time around as well.
L.A. has also looked a lot better after their moves on trade deadline day and while the Nuggets would be confident they would still win a playoff series between them, they certainly wouldn’t want to face LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the first round. There might be some bitterness in this take from Young though, as he was waived by the Nuggets after playing just 4 games in 2018.
Nick Young Threw Some Shade At Nikola Jokic
Denver’s success and his own excellent play have seen Nikola Jokic once again lead the MVP race. He is averaging a triple-double and looks set to become the first man since Larry Bird to win 3 MVPs in a row.
Young, however, does not understand why Jokic is getting all this love from the media for MVP, as Russell Westbrook was accused of stat padding when he averaged a triple-double for 3 straight seasons. He also added that Jokic gets his “a** whooped” in the playoffs but gets no criticism for it. Considering Jokic did get to the Conference Finals the last time he had a healthy supporting cast, it isn’t a surprise he hasn’t faced heavy criticism for coming up short in the last 2 years. If they get knocked out early this time around though, then it would definitely be fair to criticize him but until then, Young just comes across as a bitter ex-player.
