Two months after claiming she was ‘pigeonholed’ as ‘hypersexualized’ early in her career, two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson now says she was ‘groomed’ in as a teenager to become a Hollywood ‘bombshell.’
‘I think it was because of that trajectory I had been sort of launched towards – I really got stuck,’ the 38-year-old former child star said in the new podcast Table for Two on Tuesday.
‘I was kind of being groomed, in a way, to be this what you call a bombshell-type of actor.’

Scarlett was only 19 in 2004 when she began her role as the older, more sophisticated, and sexy Nola Rice in blacklisted director Woody Allen‘s psychological thriller Match Point.
In his 2020 memoir Apropos of Nothing, the 87-year-old filmmaker wrote that Johansson was ‘not only was she gifted and beautiful, but sexually she was radioactive.’
The native New Yorker’s character is murdered with a shotgun by her lover (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) after confessing she became pregnant during their torrid affair in the morally-bankrupt movie.
Scarlett said ‘playing the other woman and the object of desire’ left her feeling ‘cornered in this place like I couldn’t get out of it.’

Allen (born Allan Konigsberg) announced in September that he’ll finally retire from filmmaking following his final movie, Wasp 22, after releasing several post-#MeToo box office bombs.
It was the Tony-winning thespian’s CAA agent Bryan Lourd (who’s married to Table for Two host Bruce Bozzi), who helped her break out of the bombshell parts and into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
‘It would be easy to sit across from someone in that situation and go, “This is working, why change it?”‘ Scarlett recalled.
‘But for that kind of bombshell, you know, that burns bright and quick and then it’s done and you don’t have opportunity beyond that.’

Johansson continued: ‘I got this incredible opportunity to work in the second Iron Man, which that part at the time was very underdeveloped and over-sexualized, but I wanted to form a relationship with Jon Favreau who I worked with a couple of times after that, who’s an inspiration for me.’
The Outset co-founder said her future in films will involve directing and more producing, saying: ‘My ideal job is a corner office on the Disney lot. Like a little [bungalow]. That’s what I want.’
Audiences can next catch the Black Widow producer-star reuniting with her Lost in Translation castmate Bill Murray in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, which hits limited US theaters June 16 before opening wide on June 23.
