Carlo Ancelotti has once again reiterated his desire to stay at Real Madrid for as long as the club want him to.
The Italian’s future has been the topic of much discussion in recent weeks despite Ancelotti, 63, still having another 15 months to run on his contract.
Real Madrid’s end to the season could have a big bearing on Ancelotti’s future with the reigning Spanish champions nine points behind Barcelona ahead of this weekend’s El Clasico at the Camp Nou.
Ancelotti’s side also remain in the Champions League, where they will play Chelsea at the quarter-final stage, and will try to overturn a 1-0 first-leg defeat against Barcelona in their Copa del Rey semi-final next month.
The former AC Milan and Chelsea manager knows his future will be evaluated at the end of the campaign and he is conscious he could be fired if he doesn’t win either La Liga or the Champions League.
“It’s an evaluation that the club has to make, I’ve said many times that I would stay at this club for the rest of my life but it’s impossible,” said Ancelotti.
“The club will make the decision, whatever happens, and then my thinking is that I want to continue.
“What I said about the club is not so important. If the club wants me here, I will enjoy it. If they want me for three months, I will enjoy it. If they want me for three years, I will enjoy i
When asked if he thinks he will be sacked if they fail to win any of the three trophies, Ancelotti replied: “The written rules change and the unwritten ones change too. I’m convinced we’re going to win, so that’s the end (of the debate).
“The data says that we have a disadvantage in the Copa del Rey and La Liga and where we don’t have a disadvantage in the Champions League, but tomorrow we plan to cut the advantage in La Liga.”
Karim Benzema has been passed fit to feature against Barcelona despite appearing to be in discomfort before being replaced against Liverpool in midweek.
