Winning the NBA Championship is a dream for every player in the NBA. There are a few players who have already accomplished that dream multiple times, and LeBron James is among them.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has four NBA titles to his name, which is good, but certainly not enough to surpass Michael Jordan as the GOAT of the NBA. Brooklyn Nets player Spencer Dinwiddie recently talked about why James may be taking the help of the ring-chasing culture in order to win one more title before he retires from the league.
“If you’re not top 5, like all-time, two years, three years, after you are done they’re gonna forget about you bro,” Dinwiddie said. “Let’s be real about who we’re still talking about. if you didn’t change culture like AI or Steph Curry with the threes, or if you’re not literally Kobe, Mike, Bron; do we talk about Penny Hardaway? Do we talk about T-Mac? Do we talk about Brandon Roy for real? Other than injuries? Like these are monsters. The greats. If Shaq wasn’t on TNT every night, we may not be talking about him as much. And he is the most dominant player in history.”
Dinwiddie then talked about how he understands the ring-chasing culture in the NBA and gave an example of LeBron James chasing the fifth NBA Championship of his career.
“I understand the ring-chasing for those guys, because one more ring for Bron can be the difference between him being the GOAT or not. Or ‘I caught Mike,’ or ‘I caught this,’ or ‘I didn’t.'”
LeBron James was one of the most touted players in the history of basketball, even before playing in the NBA.
He was expected to be the next big thing, and among those was the expectation of becoming the greatest basketball player of all. The title currently belongs to none other than Michael Jordan.
Can LeBron James Still Surpass Michael Jordan As The GOAT?
LeBron James is currently 38 years old and is playing the 20th NBA season of his career. Over the last 20 years, LeBron has achieved a plethora of accolades and awards.
He also broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record this season and added another feather to his cap. But despite doing so much, for most, he is still behind Michael Jordan in the GOAT debate.
However, that doesn’t mean James cannot surpass MJ as the GOAT. In fact, we recently wrote a piece on what James must win to surpass Jordan as the GOAT. According to Eddie Bitar, our writer, if LeBron can win 1 scoring title, 1 MVP award, 2 NBA Championships, and 2 NBA Finals MVPs, he can finally become the GOAT of the NBA.
If LeBron can win these above-mentioned accolades, he will have 6 NBA titles, 6 NBA Finals MVPs, 5 NBA MVPs, and the all-time scoring record to his name. That seems enough to be the GOAT, right?
For now, you can find out the 10 reasons why Michael Jordan is the GOAT and why he is still untouchable. LeBron is still playing like a fine wine, but he needs a couple of more championships to be compared with the greatest player in NBA history.
