Henry Cavill On The Wicher’s S*x Scenes
The Witcher is a popular Netflix series that’s based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski. Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra play two of the main characters in The Witcher. Cavill stars as Geralt of Rivia, the titular witcher, while Chalotra plays Yennefer of Vengerberg, a powerful sorceress who crosses paths with Geralt. Throughout the show, their characters develop a complicated love relationship that is marked by tension and mutual respect. Both actors have received praise for their performances from fans and critics alike. But as per the reports, both actors were pushed to perform more intimate scenes on-screen.
In an interview, the Man of Steel star revealed that he and Chalotra were asked to perform the intimate scenes in the second season of The Witcher and they both jointly refused it. The Enola Holmes star revealed that Anya Chalotra pushes for rehearsals of the scenes, and the intimate scenes are best when they are shot firsthand to maintain the genuineness of the scene. Henry Cavill marked that the two stars were extremely careful to make sure the scene delivers the same meaning as planned.
“Well, one always rehearses these things to a degree. Anya is an exceptional actress and when it comes to these things we do like to keep it fresh and as real as possible. And so if one rehearses then it takes some of the magic out of the moments. We just wanted to be very careful that it was true and real and it didn’t turn into something that we, as actors, didn’t believe it should be.”

The Tudors stated that no explicit scenes were required in order to convey the story and thus were practically unnecessary. Cavill emphasized the emotional connection of the two characters rather than a mere se*ual relationship.
“We wanted it to be emotional rather than sexual. It was really, really important and we had to lean away from what was originally on the page. These are people who believe one thing about the fate of another, and then find out something else is true. That’s not how they behave. How they behave is they just want to be with the person and emotionally recognize their existence again in that shared space. So, Anya and I worked to make sure that that was an emotional beat rather than anything else.”
Lauren HissrichLauren Hissrich Contradicts Her Own Scenes By Stating That S*x & N*dity Were Unnecessary On The Show
Lauren Hissrich revealed in an interview that she too believes in the idea that intimate scenes are not required to convey the desirable story of The Witcher but her statement clearly contradicts her planned scenes in season 2 which pushed Cavill and Chalotra for the explicit scenes. The showrunner even marked that using s*x and n*udity to gain viewers is a cheap tactic and emphasized that the story of The Witcher is not romantic from any angle.
“I feel the same way about sex, nudity, violence, and all of those things, that they have to be story-driven. I think that using those things to shock audiences is a really cheap way for a writer to get attention to a specific scene. I’ve always said that if someone has to be having s*x behind you to make the scene interesting, then I’m not doing my job. The person who’s talking in a scene needs to be the focus. The story is much more about the evolution of a family. And so we didn’t need to have a lot of s*x. We didn’t need to have a lot of nudity. I think you feel it as a whole in the show.”
Anya Chalotra and Henry Cavill as Yennefer and Geralt
Cavill and Chalotra are both extremely talented actors who have proven their ability to handle complex material. Their objections to Lauren Hissrich’s demands of intimate scenes were based on the way in which it was being presented and its impact on the story. By pushing back against Lauren Hissrich’s demands, they were advocating for a more thoughtful and nuanced approach to the show’s handling of s*x and n*dity. The Witcher season 2 is available on Netflix and season 3 of the show will be released in the upcoming summer.
