Henry Cavill And Anya Chalotra saw a certain scene differently in The Witcher, and they weren’t wrong.
Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra argued against sharing a certain intimate scene in The Witcher and were able to get their way.
Cavill and Chalotra play Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Vengerberg respectively on the hit Netflix show. The two share a special connection with one another in the series that started back in season one. It seems the actors were able to get a certain scene involving their characters changed for season two.
When it comes to shows and movies, actors often care about their characters. Apparently Cavill and Chalotra didn’t feel the scene was right for their characters at that point. It appears the actors felt their characters should be sharing a more emotional connection after their time spent apart.

Henry Cavill And Anya Chalotra Successfully Argued Against Sharing A Certain Intimate Scene In ‘The Witcher”
Celebrities will sometimes argue against how their characters are portrayed in scenes. Most celebrities care about the characters they are playing. Many also want to be sure their characters are developed properly throughout a movie or a show.
The Witcher is a fantasy show, based on novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski. Currently airing on Netflix, two seasons have already been released, and a third season is supposed to premiere this year. Along with Princess Cirilla of Cintra, usually called Ciri, Geralt and Yennefer are main characters in the show.
Throughout the series, characters Geralt of Rivia, a witcher, and Yennefer of Vengerberg, a mage, share several emotional and intimate moments. Their relationship throughout the years is far from perfect, and is shadowed with heartache and distrust.
Upon finding out about a steamy scene that was supposed to take place in season two when their characters reunite, actors Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra were apparently against it. It involved the two reuniting after a long absence.
It seems the two actors felt the scene worked better if Geralt and Yennefer made their reunion more emotional than sexual. They decided to talk with the producers about changing the scene, and it seems they were successful.
Apparently, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich agreed. When discussing the show she stated, “The story is much more about the evolution of a family. And so we didn’t need to have a lot of sex. We didn’t need to have a lot of nudity.”
Continuing, she added, “It would have been gratuitous, because we would have thrown it in there to be sexier, or to have people talk. And that’s just not of interest to me.”
Which Scene In ‘The Witcher’ Did Henry Cavill And Anya Chalotra Argue Against?
Sometimes celebrities will want to change scenes or lines in films and shows. They do this for a variety of reasons, including to make sure the scene or line feels true to their character.
Cavill is reportedly a big fan of both The Witcher video games and novels. It’s no surprise that both he and his co-star, Chalotra, would probably want to do their best to bring their characters to life. When they finally reunited in season two, they were originally supposed to share a much more passionate moment.
According to Syfy Wire, The Tudors actor commented, “These are people who believe one thing about the fate of another, and then find out something else is true.” Cavill was referring to Geralt believing Yennefer had died.
It appears the actors felt because of where their characters’ relationship stood, their reunion needed to be more emotional instead of sexual.
According to Fandomwire, reportedly “Chalotra revealed that both she and Cavill were disinclined toward portraying an intimate relationship onscreen between their two characters”.
Why Did Henry Cavill And Anya Chalotra Argue Against This Scene For Their Characters?
Some actors try to change things if they have concerns about a scene in a movie or a film. Maybe they feel a scene is unnecessary, or they don’t think it fits with the development of their characters.
After reading the script for season two, it seems Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra decided to speak with the producers of the show about the scene in which they reunite. Apparently, it was originally written to show the characters reuniting passionately. Viewers might notice the bed in the background. However, it seems the two actors felt it wasn’t the way their “characters would behave”.
According to Syfy, Cavill stated, “That’s not how they behave. How they behave is they just want to be with the person and emotionally recognize their existence again in that shared space. So, Anya and I worked to make sure that was an emotional beat rather than anything else.”
The scene was changed to show a moving moment between Geralt and Yennefer. It also features Yennefer meeting Ciri.
The Man of Steel actor also added, “We just wanted to be very careful that it was true and real and it didn’t turn into something that we, as actors, didn’t believe it should be. We wanted it to be emotional rather than sexual. It was really, really, important and we had to lean away from what was originally on the page”.
In an interview with The Observer, Chalotra discussed working with Cavill to develop their onscreen relationship. She stated, “It was very important to work with Henry through that relationship”, adding “his experience just helped in every conversation we had.”
