What seemed like a set coaching unit after a second Super Bowl championship in four years has turned out to be anything but for the Kansas City Chiefs. The franchise, along with head coach Andy Reid, made multiple offseason moves in the coaching department after losing some winning pieces. However, unfortunately, they could not rope in the one that quarterback Patrick Mahomes would have liked.
Patrick’s Texas Tech college head coach Kliff Kingsbury would have made the 2x Super Bowl MVP passer very happy with a reunion in Missouri. However, the former Cardinals head coach’s latest career move has splashed water on those plans.

No reunion on the horizon for Patrick Mahomes and Kliff Kingsbury
The Arizona Cardinals parted ways with their HC seven months ago. And since then, the speculations have been ongoing about a potential consultant or assistant coach position role for Kingsbury at the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the rumors came to an end this week. Kliff announced his decision to go back to college football after a four-season NFL stint.
Klick Kingsbury joined Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans coaching staff to work with the quarterbacks as their senior offensive analyst. That is obviously Kliff’s sweet spot, having worked his offensive genius with Mahomes back in Texas. Under him, Patrick threw 4653 and 5052 passing yards in his final two years. Add to that the combined 93 touchdowns in those two seasons.

Overall, Kliff Kingsbury had a 35-47 losing record during his five-year stint at Texas Tech. He followed this up with a frustrating 28-37-1 record with the Arizona Cardinals in the four seasons, wandering most of the time at the bottom half of the NFL West.
How will the Chiefs do without Kliff?
After the 38-35 win against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, it was time for some of the coaching talents to move up the chain. Former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy joined the Washington Commanders as their head coach. Greg Lewis also left to join the Baltimore Ravens as their wide receiver coach.
The Chiefs promoted Matt Nagy to the offensive coordinator position after Bienemy’s departure. However, the consultant/ assistant coach role remains up for grabs. The Chiefs will continue looking, while Patrick Mahomes will have to wait longer for the reunion with Kingsbury.
