The career of Cristiano Ronaldo and possibly his life could have been cut short due to a near-fatal incident that occurred in 2009. The Portuguese player was involved in a serious car crash on his way to training while he was a player at Manchester United. According to The Guardian, his car “was involved in the accident on the A538 Wilmslow Road.”
The crash was horrific and Ronaldo’s Ferrari had its front edge demolished. However, Ronaldo was “extremely lucky“ to survive without any injuries. A witness said: “I got there just after the accident had happened and saw the state of the car. It is amazing he got out of it without a scratch.”

After it was confirmed that Ronaldo was behind the wheel in the incident, United also released a statement. “He was involved in an incident this morning. No other cars were involved. He’s fine and is training as normal with the team this morning.”
The then-United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar was also on his way to the Carrington training complex from the same tunnel. He gave Ronaldo a lift to training. Even after this horrific incident, Ronaldo turned up to train with his team.
The luxury car was a Ferrari 599 GTB. It was worth over $300,000. After the crash, it was reported that the car was put up for sale but no news about the sale was published.
This was not the only time Cristiano Ronaldo’s luxury car suffered a crash
In June 2022, another luxury car owned by Ronaldo was involved in a crash. This time it was his $2.1 million Bugatti Veyron. However, this time Ronaldo himself was not involved in the crash. It was his bodyguard who was driving the car.
A source close to the incident said, “The car smashed into a wall but there was only material damage with no one injured and the driver accepted full responsibility for what happened. The information about who was behind the wheel and what occurred is registered on a police database and is there for a court or officers to access if any further investigations need to be conducted.”

According to Latin Times, the driver of the Bugatti Veyron lost control of the vehicle. This led the car to glide into a wall in the residential estate of Sa Coma, Bunyola, Palma de Majorca. Ronaldo was on vacation with his family in this Spanish estate during the season break. Following the crash, the car was taken away in a blue tarpaulin.
