Kylian Mbappé breaks another record. Top scorer: Mbappé, David back on target

Kylian Mbappé’s goal in the Parisians’ 3-1 win over Lens on Saturday evening made him the sole top scorer in Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 history with 139 goals. He is now ahead of his former teammate Edinson Cavani at the top of the table.

He’s breaking records one after the other. Kylian Mbappé, whose goal helped Paris Saint-Germain take the lead against RC Lens this Saturday evening at the Parc des Princes (3-1), scored his 139th goal in Ligue 1 with Paris. The French international had already set a record for the number of goals scored in all competitions, but now he is making even more history for the Rouge et Bleu.

Kylian Mbappé’s opening goal in the Ligue 1 clash on Matchday 31 saw RC Lens become his 29th French league victim. Until that game, they were the only French side he had faced without finding the net for Paris. In his six seasons with the club from the capital, Kylian Mbappé has made Dijon his favourite victim, having scored 11 goals against DFCO in the top flight. The Paris native is accustomed to making the difference in high-profile matches, and sees Olympique de Marseille and AS Monaco complete the podium of the teams he has scored the most goals against in the league with the club from the capital (9 goals).

Among the top scorers in the top five leagues still active in Europe’s top flights, Kylian Mbappé is already in the top 20. He is ahead of players such as Marco Reus, Thomas Muller, Eden Hazard and Sadio Mané. A list that is overwhelmingly dominated by… Leo Messi, his fellow Parisian forward. Also at the top of the list are two former Rouge et Bleu stars who are well known to the club from the capital: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC Milan) and Edinson Cavani (Valencia).

If we go back to the same standings, but this time only taking into account French strikers, we see that Kylian Mbappé is already close to the top five. At 24 years of age, the Paris Saint-Germain striker is fast approaching the top spots held by Kévin Gameiro (RC Strasbourg), Antoine Griezmann (Atlético de Madrid), Alexandre Lacazette (Olympique Lyonnais), Wissam Ben Yedder (AS Monaco) and of course Karim Benzema (Real Madrid).

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN’S TOP SCORERS IN LIGUE 1:

  1. Kylian Mbappé – 139 goals
  2. Edinson Cavani – 138 goals
  3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 113 goals
  4. Mustapha Dahleb – 85 goals
  5. Dominique Rocheteau – 83 goals
  6. Neymar Jr – 82 goals

The World Cup winner broke the deadlock in Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 win over Lens with a fine 32nd-minute effort, bringing an end to his three-game goalless run.

Mbappé’s strike takes him to 20 goals for the campaign as he bids to win the top scorer award for the fifth-consecutive year.

Lionel Messi netted his 15th goal of the season with PSG’s third in their win over Lens.

Messi and Mbappé linked up superbly, leaving the Argentine the task of firing low past Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba.
