Their coordinating gala looks are unmatched.
Hollywood’s longtime It couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are adored for many reasons: their social media trolling, their adorable family, and, among other things, their show-stopping red-carpet appearances.
Homebodies to their four children, Lively and Reynolds only walk the carpet for major Hollywood events, but when they do, their appearances are fierce, unforgettable, and emanating with affection.
As we prepare for this year’s Met Gala, look back on the pair’s most influential red-carpet moments—from their shining 2014 debut at the Met Gala to their most recent appearance as the evening’s selected co-chairs.
Met Gala (May 2, 2022)
Lively and Reynolds were among the shining stars at the 2022 Met Gala, where both glowed on the Metropolitan Museum’s-carpeted red steps and served as the evening’s co-chairs (alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda and Regina King).
In light of the occasion’s “Gilded Glamour” theme, Lively channeled the Statue of Liberty in a shimmering rose-gold gown from Atelier Versace that boasted one of the actress’s most dramatic trains to date. The special custom gown—which was studded with geometric sequins—featured a layered puff train that later unraveled into a cascading teal train (a reflection of the statue’s color change over the years).
Reynolds, meanwhile, looked sharp beside his wife in a dark brown velvet tuxedo from Ralph Lauren.
‘The Adam Project’ Premiere (February 28, 2022)
Lively showed out as Reynolds’s supportive plus-one to the Manhattan premiere of his starring film The Adam Project, where the two coordinated in striped ensembles. Lively wore a colorful pastel gown from Versace—which she accessorized with white wide hoops and a series of beaded bracelets—and Reynolds wore a dark gray pinstripe suit and matching light gray tie.
‘Free Guy’ Premiere (August 3, 2021)
Lively shined at the Los Angeles premiere of Reynolds’s action-sci-fi film, Free Guy, in a sequined lavender dress from Prabal Gurung featuring geometric cutouts at the waist and chest. She paired the dazzling gown with a slicked-back ponytail and minimal jewelry. Keeping the spotlight on Lively, Reynolds wore a simple yet elegant light gray suit, which he layered over a dark blue checkered button-up.
Pokemon Detective Pikachu’ Premiere (May 2, 2019)
The pair took on the New York premiere of Pokemon Detective Pikachu in a sunny joint appearance that also officially confirmed Lively’s third pregnancy. On the Pikachu-themed carpet, the actress channeled her husband’s starring role in a bright-yellow sequined midi dress by Retrofête topped with a coordinating yellow rope belt. (Lively and Reynolds welcomed their third child, daughter Betty Reynolds, five months later, on October 4, 2019.)
Met Gala (May 1, 2017)
For the duo’s second-ever Met Gala appearance, Lively and Reynolds wore coordinating blue ensembles in line with the evening’s theme, “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.” Lively looked goddess-like in a shimmering gold, long-sleeve ruched Atelier Versace gown featuring blue feather detailing at the train. Reynolds, meanwhile, wore a dark blue tuxedo paired with a blue velvet bowtie that matched Lively’s train.
Hollywood Walk of Fame (December 16, 2016)
Lively and Reynolds (while still just parents of two) celebrated the actor’s official induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a full gang of four. During Reynolds’s special ceremony, Lively wore a custom Atelier Versace sapphire-blue midi dress paired with Louboutin sandals. She was later seen celebrating by her husband’s new star alongside the actors’ two daughters, James and Inez Reynolds. (The occasion additionally marked newborn Inez’s first-ever red carpet.)
Cannes Film Festival (May 16, 2014)
Less than two weeks following their official red-carpet debut in New York City, Lively and Reynolds glistened on another red carpet overseas for the world premiere of Captive during the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival.
The two opted for coordinating looks from Gucci. Lively wore a strapless black-and-white gown (paired with a slick side ponytail, smoky eye, and bold red lip); and Reynolds chose a slick black tuxedo paired with a matching pearly-white bowtie.
Met Gala (May 5, 2014)
Nearly two years into their marriage, Lively and Reynolds made their official red-carpet debut at the 2014 Met Gala. On the Metropolitan Museum steps, they made their grand entrance as a pair in Gucci ensembles. Lively wore a silk chiffon blush Gucci Première gown and had her hair styled in classic Hollywood curls. Reynolds looked dapper in a dark velvet suit.
