In 2020, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney decided to team up and drop around $2.5 million to become the proud new owners of Wrexham FC, the Welsh soccer club that quickly captured the hearts and minds of people around the world.

The two men have experienced plenty of ups and downs since acquiring the team, but earlier this month, they got a storybook ending to a Cinderella story when Wrexham ensured it will be promoted to League Two after spending 15 years wallowing in the relative misery that comes with being relegated to the National League.

It seems like that somewhat impulsive investment has worked out pretty well for the two men—but it doesn’t seem like Reynolds is done dabbling in the world of professional sports franchise ownership.

In 2022, the Vancouver native set his sights on the Ottawa Senators, which unofficially hit the market shortly after former owner Eugene Melnyk passed away.

He admitted he needed a little bit of help from people with deeper pockets than himself, but also got an assist from the NHL, which reportedly all but ordered anyone who was interested in acquiring the franchise to include Reynolds in some capacity.

According to The Ottawa Sun, Reynolds has linked up with real estate mogul Christopher Bratty and The Remington Group in the hopes of making that dream a reality, as they will reportedly submit a $1 billion bid to purchase the Senators ahead of a deadline that’s been set for May 15th (the outlet also reports the group plans to construct a new arena in downtown Ottawa),

It seems safe to assume Reynolds will have a fairly minor financial stake in the franchise if the offer is approved, and while he may not be heavily involved in day-to-day operations, he’ll undoubtedly be able to use his profile to generate a bunch of free publicity for the team (and the NHL in general) if everything falls into place.
