Little Reagan’s survival in her mother’s womb was deemed unlikely by doctors, yet she and her twin sister were born, and at six months old, they are both doing well. When she was born, the infant was three times smaller than her twin sister, who was thought to have no more in the pregnancy, yet she beat the odds. Reagan, who is now 6 months old and only weighs 1l, was born 11 weeks early and is smaller than Mila, who weighs 2l 13oz. The fact that Reagan was still alive despite the doctors’ clear predictions that she wouldn’t survive the pregnancy, according to Reagan’s mother Audrieanna Lambert, is a miracle.
When the medical staff at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, USA, learned that Reagan’s growth had ceased at 20 weeks, they became quite concerned. Mila spent 45 days in the newborn critical care unit before she was healthy enough to be discharged from the hospital following a C-section in December 2021. Both twins were transported to the care room. Little Reagan, who battled sepsis, was unable to bring his sister home to Washington, Pennsylvania, for 118 days. Mila currently weighs 12 pounds and Reagan is 7 pounds, 5 ounces. The twins are both developing normally, although they are still growing to different proportions.
A 32-year-old claims specialist named Audrieanna remarked, “Roseanne was significantly smaller than I had anticipated the first time I met them. It’s crazy how different they are. Nearly three times as large is Mila. They don’t even resemble twins given their extreme size differences! Reagan was far smaller than I had anticipated. However, both were miracles and succeeded. They are now fantastic. After years of trying unsuccessfully to conceive, Audrieanna and her husband Chase, a union worker, were ecstatic to learn they were expecting their first child in June 2021 following their first IVF.
The couple found out they were carrying twins at week six, but doctors warned them that baby Reagan might not survive the pregnancy because of her small stature. Reagan, however, was 18% smaller than her sister at week 20, and she once again lagged behind. At the time, doctors weren’t sure if she would survive. At 24 weeks, the couple received the heartbreaking news that Reagan had shrunk by 50% and was having issues with the umbilical cord’s ability to transmit nutrients or blood from the mother’s blood over the placenta to the infant. However, at 26 weeks, the doctors found that Reagan’s heart was still beating two weeks later.
“They were really angry that she was still being difficult,” Audrieanna remarked.” I was resolved to do everything in my power to support her in her endeavors.” At 27 weeks, Audrieanna was brought into West Penn Hospital for observation. Before Regan’s umbilical cord’s flow changed and the babies needed to be delivered by emergency c-section, she continued doing it for 29 weeks. Mila weighed 2 pounds, 13 ounces when she was born on December 10, 2021, and Reagan weighed exactly 1 pound when she was born on December 10, 2021 at 16:33. Audrianna had to wait a long time before she could see the twins since they had to be rushed immediately to the NICU.
“When I first met Reagan, she was so little, she could fit in your hand,” she remarked.
The family learned that Reagan had sepsis and had been sent to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh when the twins were two weeks old. After 45 days in the hospital, Mila made a good recovery and was well enough to return home in January 2022.
