Breaking barriers, Jennifer Lopez quickly became one of the highest-paid Latina actresses in Hollywood. Not only has she shown her talents as an incredible actress, but she is also one of the world’s most renowned musicians with songs like Ain’t Your Mama and On The Floor which are the anthems of the dance floor!
However, even a celebrity of her caliber has regrets about her career. Remember the 2002 thriller, Unfaithful? Well, Jennifer Lopez was offered the role of Connie Summer which she ended up rejecting. The role went to Man of Steel actress, Diane Lane, who went on to get nominated for an Academy Award. Of course, Jennifer Lopez has regrets about letting the role go!
Jennifer Lopez Regrets Missing Out on Unfaithful
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer Lopez recalled the time when she was offered the role of Connie Summer in Unfaithful. However, she declined as “the script wasn’t all the way there” when she received it. She then stated that she should have known that the director, Adrian Lyne, would do a great job. In the end, though, she feels as if the role went to the right place with Diane Lane.
“I should have known that Adrian Lyne was going to kill it, but I didn’t. Diane Lane was so perfect for it, and it was obviously meant to be her, but when I think about that…I want to literally, like, shoot my toe off. I do.”
While Lopez missed out on Unfaithful, she starred in Enough and Maid in Manhattan in the same year. Her multi-platinum album, This Is Me…Then, also released in the same year. Well, it all worked out in the end!
Jennifer Lopez was Lucky to Miss Out on This
Sure, Lopez had to see a notable accolade snatched away from her, but she might be a little relieved to hear that Lane’s time on the set wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies either. Lane recalled an incident to My Joy Online where after strenuous filming, her neck gave out.
“So here we are, I’m trying to let the camera see me and I’m holding him, and I have to come up and kiss him at the same time. I mean, we’ve must’ve done 50 takes. So my neck finally went out. And I didn’t know it till the next time. There is one scene you see me in the film…I am laying down on the bed. I’m just doing the scene laying down because that’s all I could do at that point.”
Honestly, who said being an actor is an easy job? More power to Lane for pulling through and delivering an Oscar-worthy performance!
