“Make sure you’re in good movies”: Tom Cruise Made Glen Powell Accept $1M Paycheck in $1.49B Movie That ‘Saved Hollywood’

Glen Powell’s rise to stardom has major credit to the movie that he almost refused to be a part of. Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick was a movie that revived cinema in the best way possible. Every actor who had even the minutest role to play in the film proved to be of significant importance upon the release of the sequel.

Powell had talked about how not getting the role of Rooster had taken a hit on him and he wasn’t as interested in playing Hangman. However, it wasn’t until Cruise stepped up and gave the actor some advice that he finally decided to say yes. In the end, he is more than thankful to the actor for having influenced him into making the correct decisions.

Tom Cruise Convinced Glen Powell Into Accepting The Role Of Hangman

Glen Powell rose to fame overnight after the release of Top Gun: Maverick. The movie impacted the entire world after the pandemic created a massive dry patch for the Hollywood industry. It is even credited to be the reason why people started going to movie theatres again. Powell’s role also got a lot of recognition and praise, bringing him right next to a lot of other renowned celebrities.

Tom Cruise

“Tom basically said, ‘Don’t look at the size of the role.’ He said, ‘Make sure you’re in good movies, and figure out how to make your role great within that movie.’”

The actor talked about how he wasn’t very fond of his character initially, but Tom Cruise suggested that he take up the role regardless. He elaborated on how it was wiser to take a smaller role in a bigger movie so as to create a lasting impression. What went into the movie after that completely depended on Powell, and it is safe to say that he gave his best.

Glen Powell Had A Huge Hand In Why Hangman Is Likeable

A major reason why fans are fond of Hangman is because of the way Glen Powell portrayed him. The character was initially flat with no massive character growth or impact whatsoever. That was a major reason as to why the actor wasn’t looking forward to playing the character in the first place. However, after a lot of changes, he finally seemed more than a two-dimensional character with more to him than the eye would first perceive.
