Cristiano Ronaldo ‘was keen to’ join Arsenal after leaving Man Utd and ‘would have won’ the PL

Piers Morgan thinks Arsenal would have won the Premier League if Cristiano Ronaldo had signed for them when he left Manchester United.

Ronaldo’s interview with Morgan, which was released on Talk TV last November, marked the end of his time at Man Utd with the club agreeing to terminate his contract at the end of that month.

The Portugal international criticised the manager, board, former players and more in a controversial interview that left everybody in no doubt that his time at Old Trafford was coming to an end.

TV presenter Morgan – who is an Arsenal supporter – has been unwavering in his support for Ronaldo with the striker facing accusations of greed for leaving Man Utd for Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.

And now Morgan claims that Ronaldo “was keen” to pursue a move to Premier League side Arsenal and he reckons the Portuguese superstar would’ve got them over the line.

Morgan wrote on Twitter: “Mock all you like, but if we’d signed Ronaldo when he left Utd, until the end of the season – as he was keen to do btw – we would have won the League. He knows how to win major trophies, and how to score goals when it really matters.”

Brazil icon Rivaldo reckons Ronaldo could have been “fooled” into a move to Saudi Arabia with the former Barcelona star insisting that the whole football world wants to see him return to Real Madrid.

Rivaldo told Mundo Deportivo: “I understand that sometimes the players are fooled by the big contract they sign in Saudi Arabia, but then life there is more closed and football is not always as easy as expected.

“So, you may be going through a phase of some disappointment and even reflection. If the money you’re getting makes up for the not-so-happy life you’re living right now.

“It would be good for him and for football to see Cristiano Ronaldo return to Real Madrid to finish his career.

“Of course, the fans have to understand that they cannot demand the same from him as when he was 25 or 26-years-old, but he can still help the club in more conquests.”

Saudi journalist Khaled Al Arafah has been impressed by how Ronaldo has conducted himself since moving to Al-Nassr with the Portuguese striker raising the level of the matches.

“When the Al-Nassr players see Cristiano training, they try to match his massive levels of dedication,” Al Arafah told FourFourTwo. “It’s about confidence. Watch them before and now, you can see how much they’ve improved and are genuinely giving their all.

“The same goes for opponents, too. I spoke to Luiz Gustavo recently and he told me that since Ronaldo’s arrival, most of the teams are giving 200 per cent when they take on Al-Nassr. That makes sense. When you play a game and you know people are watching you around the world, you give everything. It makes Saudi Pro League matches better.”
