Behind the Scenes: Jennifer Lawrence Opens Up About Hair Damage From Hollywood Blockbuster.

Jennifer Lawrence became a household name after her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in the 2012 film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel, The Hunger Games. The character’s distinct style and personality captivated young audiences worldwide, leading many to emulate Lawrence’s iconic look. The success of the franchise propelled Lawrence to even greater heights of fame and cemented her status as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actresses.

Lawrence’s character wore long dark brown hair in a braid throughout the movie. But, one thing that fans didn’t know was how badly the actress suffered damage to her tresses while filming the sequel, Catching Fire.

Jennifer Lawrence’s hair transformation for her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games didn’t go as planned. Initially wanting to dye her hair the lightest shade of brown, Lawrence’s vision was in contrast to that of the movie’s director, Gary Ross. Ross envisioned a more earthy tone for the character’s hair and ultimately decided on the darkest shade of brown. Despite the option of wearing a wig, Lawrence agreed to dye her hair to achieve a more authentic look for the character.

As noted by Cosmopolitan, Katniss’ iconic braid had a practical purpose for the character and made framing her for camera angles easier. While the role was a breakthrough moment for Lawrence’s career, the hair transformation left her with a disaster to hide from the public. Nonetheless, her commitment to the role and willingness to make bold decisions only solidified her status as a respected actress in Hollywood.

In late 2012, Jennifer Lawrence was in the midst of shooting Catching Fire when she received the Best Actress award for her role in The Silver Linings Playbook. At the Academy Awards, Lawrence was seen with dark brown hair highlighted with blonde tones.

However, upon returning to Hawaii for filming, Lawrence was required to dye her hair completely brown once again. Unfortunately, the constant bleaching and dyeing took a toll on her hair, causing significant damage which left her no choice but to cut it all off. Linda Flowers, Lawrence’s stylist, revealed the extent of the damage, stating that the actress’ hair had become so brittle and dry that it was breaking off in clumps. Despite the hair disaster, Lawrence took it in stride and continued to rock short hairstyles with confidence and style.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Jennifer Lawrence’s stylist, Linda Flowers, revealed that the actress had wanted to go back to her natural blonde hair for awards season, but the excessive build-up of hair color made it impossible. As a result, Lawrence opted to cut her hair off to shoulder length.

Flowers attempted to remove the brown pigments from Lawrence’s hair with a base-breaking formula, which helped to some extent. However, Lawrence then went to her personal colorist and spent eight hours getting her hair bleached, causing significant damage in the process. To restore her hair’s health, Lawrence eventually decided to go for a full pixie cut.

Despite the hair damage, Lawrence has always been candid about her lack of hair care routine, admitting that she relies heavily on the expertise of her hair experts and stylists. In a related note, Lawrence felt empowered after filming a nude scene for her role in Red Sparrow, stating that the experience helped her overcome her fear of vulnerability and boosted her confidence.
