Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for The Flash season 9, episode 12, “A New World, Part Three.”Many details about the future of the Arrowverse were revealed in The Flash season 9, episode 12. Previous episodes of The Flash had revealed a fair bit about the future world of 2049, where Barry Allen’s children had started to follow in his footsteps as the next generation of speedster superheroes protecting Earth-Prime. Despite this, a few more secrets were revealed over the course of “A New World, Part Three.”

The final storyline of The Flash season 9 found Barry Allen adrift in time thanks to the Negative Speed Force. After being forced to confront the Reverse-Flash Eboard Thawne on the day of his mother’s death, Barry was dragged away as his wife, Iris, went into labor. This left the present-day Team Flash rushing to get Iris to the hospital, even as they struggled to figure out where Barry was and if they could help him. The events of The Flash season 9, episode 12, “A New World, Part Three,” revealed that Barry had been transported to the year 2049, leading to new information about the Arrowverse’s future.

7 XS Is The Leader Of Team Flash

The first child of Barry and Iris West-Allen, a variant of Nora “XS” West-Allen appeared in disguise throughout The Flash season 4. She did not reveal herself until The Flash season 4 finale after it became apparent her trip to her past had altered the timeline. This version of XS was erased from reality in The Flash season 5, but a new XS was reborn after Crisis on Infinite Earths. The new XS was confirmed to be the newly appointed leader of the future Team Flash in “A New World, Part 3,” as she returned to their base from a mission with the rest of the team in tow.

6 Cecile Has A Costume With A Mask

The resident empath turned telepath of Team Flash, Cecile Horton was confirmed to still be an active part of the team in 2049. Indeed, she seemed to be taking her life as a superhero more seriously, wearing a costume with a proper mask to obscure her identity. She was also revealed to be using the codename Virtue, in a nod to an obscure DC Comics hero from the 2013 series The Movement, who had similar powers. However, the Virtue of the comics, Holly Ann Fields, is more powerful than Cecile, possessing the powers to fly, become intangible, and increase her size and strength in addition to telepathy and empathy.

5 Allegra and Chester Are Married

The Flash season 9 established a long-teased romance between light-manipulating reporter Allegra Garcia and STAR Labs engineer Chester P. Runk. The flash-forward to 2049 confirmed that the two heroes were still members in good standing of Team Flash, with Chester running the comms in the command center and Allegra fighting in the field in her own unmasked uniform. The flash-forward also established that the two get married at some point in the future, with Cecile commenting that “it’s adorable that after all of these years of marriage, you two still have that spark,” as the two kissed once the team returned from their mission.

4 The Justice League Has A Watchtower Base in 2049

The Barry Allen of 2049 was curiously absent from the Team Flash command center, given that Nora had just completed her first mission as Team Flash’s leader. His absence was explained by a throwaway line about his being on the Watchtower and out of radio contact for the next 12 hours. This was a nod to one of the Justice League’s many space-bound headquarters from the comics.

First appearing in JLA #4 in 1997, the Watchtower was a base the Justice League built on Earth’s moon. Various adaptations have utilized the Watchtower ever since, usually depicting it as a geosynchronous satellite rather than a moon base, presumably as a nod to the original Justice League Satellite base from the 1970s comics. J’onn J’onzz created a similar installation called the Tower for the heroes of National City in Supergirl, which could act as a spaceship if needed. It seems likely that the Arrowverse Justice League Watchtower of 2049 might be based on this technology, assuming it isn’t the same base with a new name.

3 Team Flash’s 2049 Base Is Under The Flash Museum

By 2049, STAR Labs had been transformed into a museum devoted to The Flash and his allies. Despite this, “A New World, Part 3” revealed that Team Flash still operated out of the facility, albeit in a secret lair underneath the museum proper. While Allegra questioned the wisdom of operating out of a public building, Chester defended the decision, asking, “Who’d look for the Flash under his own museum?” This is another nod to the modern The Flash comics, where Barry Allen created a secret lab for himself and his scientist allies hidden inside The Flash Museum for precisely that reason.

2 Team Flash Protects More Than Central City in 2049

While Team Flash is still operating out of a bunker under what was STAR Labs, the scope of their operations in 2049 has gone far beyond protecting Central City from malevolent metahumans. XS’s first mission as Team Flash’s leader was said to involve battling the Chronarch, a time-traveling villain from the 64th century who was once referenced by the villain Abra Kadabra. This battle was reportedly the capstone to the Chronarch Wars.

Reference was also made to Team Flash “helping the Savothian freedom fighters.” The Savothians are a race of dog-like aliens from The Flash comics who were brilliant scientists but inept at fighting. Jay Garrick helped them to take back their home planet in the comics, making the lightning emblem of the Flashes a symbol of high honor among the Savothians. Presumably, the Team Flash of 2049 did something similar in the Arrowverse.

1 Cecile Is A Full Time Superhero

Seeking the time-lost Flash, the Cecile Horton of 2023 sends her mind forward in time to take over her own body in 2049. She goes on to have a disturbing conversation with the future Team Flash, who informs her that she’s so busy with her work as a superhero that she’s only visited her longtime boyfriend, Joe West, at their country house twice in the past year. No explanation was provided for why the future Cecile was such a workaholic, but it seemed at odds with her efforts to be attentive to her family despite the distance between Joe’s new home and Central City in the present of The Flash.
