Actress Jennifer Lawrence has been a part of the entertainment industry for a long time now. The actress got her first minor role in the TV pilot Company Town (2006). She made her film debut in the 2008 drama film Garden Party. In the early 2010s, the actress gained a lot of popularity after starring in hits like Silver Linings Playbook (2012), The Hunger Games series (2012-2015), and Passengers (2016).
Obviously, as an actress, every movie requires her to prepare for the role in a different way. However, she once refused to lose weight for a role in a movie. In the end, she got what she wanted and portrayed her character exactly the way she wanted to.
Jennifer Lawrence refused to lose weight for a movie
The Hunger Games movie series were based on The Hunger Games trilogy of novels by American author Suzanne Collins. So, naturally, the creators of the movie wanted the stars of the film to accurately portray the characters in the books.
Jennifer Lawrence, who played the role of Katniss Everdeen, was reportedly asked to lose roughly 10 lbs in order to look like the Katniss that is described in the novels. However, Lawrence was strictly against the idea.

The actress wanted the character to look like a good role model
In a 2004 interview with Yahoo, Jennifer Lawrence explained why she decided to revolt against the idea of losing weight for the movie. She said,
“In the first movie, when it was obviously being talked about, like, ‘It’s the Hunger Games, you have to lose 10lb,’ I was like, ‘We have control over this image, we have control over this role model. Why would we make her something unobtainable and thin?’ This is a person that young girls – well, all women, but mainly young girls – will be looking up to and are going to want to look like her, and we have control over it, so why not make her strong? Why not make her beautiful and healthy and fit?”
The actress also called out the unrealistic beauty standards and also blamed the media for keeping it “alive.”
