Charles Barkley and Kevin Durant resumed their feud during the 2022 NBA playoffs after Chuck began criticizing KD for joining the Brooklyn Nets, who had a difficult time winning previous season after KD left the Golden State Warriors in 2019.
This situation was really hard to watch, as these two went at it, exchanging jabs on social media and live TV, giving us one of the biggest matchups of the playoffs, even though it didn’t happen on the court.
Barkley called Durant a ‘bus rider’ and KD didn’t wait to fire back at Chuck, telling him that superteams were a thing when he was in the league and he was part of two. This situation continued for a couple of weeks and even now that we’re two months into the season, people keep talking about it.
Gilbert Arenas Reminds Charles Barkley Who He Was During His Active Days
Talking on VladTV about this situation, former player Gilbert Arenas called out Charles Barkley, reminding him that he used to get the same attitude when he was criticized, so he had nothing to say to Kevin Durant for defending himself (2:09 mark).
“Coming from guys who did the same thing when they played,” Arenas said of Barkley’s criticism. “He did the same thing.”
“You gotta remember there was no social media… You’re talking trash about him for doing something that you did too during the platform you had. You had a platform and that platform–you was a wild man. He was a wild man. That’s like Dennis Rodman talking about James Harden clubbing. We don’t wanna hear it. We don’t wanna hear that from you, my guy. We don’t… The older guys sometimes forget who they were when they were that age.”
This is a big point made by Arenas, as Barkley really went at it during his playing days. More than once he went after the press, including the time he was linked with Madonna, and denied that they had any type of relationship.
Times have changed and it’s easy to see things in a different way now, and it’s even easier to criticize players for doing what you used to do, only that you forgot. Arenas has been that person too, so it seems like this is a circle that never ends.
