Tottenham Hotspur will prioritise an attacker during the January window, transfer insider Dean Jones has claimed.
Antonio Conte’s side have struggled for consistency this season and could be busy in the upcoming window.
What’s the latest news involving Tottenham Hotspur?
It’s been a mixed start to the season for Spurs. Entering the campaign with plenty of expectations after their first pre-season under Conte, Tottenham had been tipped to do well this term. Instead, the surprise package has been north London rivals Arsenal, who currently top the Premier League table, while Spurs might have to settle for a top-four battle instead.
Progression as winners from a tricky Champions League group was deemed a success, but defeat to Nottingham Forest in the League Cup Third Round dented Spurs’ hopes of ending their 15-season wait for silverware. Heading into the second half of the campaign, it looks as if Tottenham’s only chance of lifting a trophy will come in the FA Cup – a competition they haven’t won since 1990/91.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, Conte’s future remains in doubt and Jones previously told GIVEMESPORT that the Italian manager “needs to know” if success is attainable at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, before committing his future long-term.
With contract talks set to rumble on into the new year, attention has switched towards Spurs’ January transfer window, with the north Londoners tipped to be busy in the market.
What has Jones said about Tottenham?
Speaking in an interview with GMS, transfer insider Jones revealed Tottenham will likely target an attacker in the upcoming window.
“When I’m speaking to people who have an understanding of how things will open up at Tottenham, they think an attacking player is probably being prioritised at the moment.”
Who might Tottenham target in the January window?
Depth in attack has plagued many a Spurs campaign in the past and with Richarlison, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski having all suffered injuries at one point this season, reinforcements in those areas appears necessary.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano told GMS that Tottenham remained interested in attack-minded midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, with reports from Italy suggesting the Atalanta man could be available for less than £16 million. The creative midfielder would offer Spurs a profile of player they haven’t had in their ranks since Christian Eriksen left for Inter Milan in January 2020.
Elsewhere, reports in France suggest Tottenham have entered the race for Stade Rennes forward Martin Terrier. Tipped to come up against Manchester United for his signature, the 25-year-old has netted eight times and assisted three goals for Rennes in Ligue 1 this season.
