Guardiola’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of this season and some fans had become concerned as to whether he would extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium or not. Fortunately, Guardiola agreed a new deal towards the end of 2022 which will keep him at City until 2025.

Fans may expect that Guardiola will stay until his contract expires however in a recent interview with Marca, the Catalan boss claimed that the deal is ‘just a bit of paper’ and is not binding the 51-year-old to Manchester. He explained: “The moment I feel something is wrong, I will resign or not renew my contract.

“I will not stay as [Sir Alex] Ferguson or [Arsene] Wenger. The contract is just a piece of paper.

“I extended my commitment to the club because I feel the team can still do well under my leadership. In the end, it’s all about the result.

“If we get tired of each other, I’m not going to stay until the end because of the contract.” At present, no City fans will be wanting to see the back of their manager.

Since he arrived in 2016, City have won four Premier League titles, four League Cups, an FA Cup and two Community Shields. The only trophy that has eluded the Blues is the Champions League but they have reached the final and were semi-finalists last season.

City are through to the knockout stages of the elite European competition this campaign as well as still competing in the domestic cups. The Blues are second in the Premier League, seven points behind Arsenal.
