The Memphis Grizzlies finished in the No. 2 seed spot in the Western Conference last season and won a playoff series as well. The team has developed a strong core around Ja Morant, with players like Desmond Bane, Dillon Brooks, and Jaren Jackson Jr. all solid contributors. The team has built through the draft, too, meaning that they retain a lot of their assets to play with in the coming seasons.
The Grizzlies are right up there in the Western Conference once again, currently battling with the New Orleans Pelicans and the Denver Nuggets for the top spot. The team has an MVP candidate in Ja Morant, even if he’s not toward the top of the conversation, and if they could add another star, they might just become true favorites instead of contenders. So it makes sense that Shams Charania named the Grizzlies as the team in the best position to acquire the next disgruntled NBA star.
“They have all their flexibility moving forward… They have like five first round picks to play with, and those are the picks they put on the table in any deal for Kevin Durant when they enquired on him during the summer…
“They can really go get a star player out there in the market place or whenever that guy becomes available. The question’s gonna be internally whether they want to continue to do it in-house, homegrown talent, or do you want to go out and use your assets.”
The Grizzlies have some interesting young pieces they have drafted to offer up in trade for a star as well, meaning they are probably the best-poised team in the Western Conference to make a big splash. There aren’t too many sellers before this trade deadline, but the offseason could be an interesting one for Memphis.
Which NBA Stars Could The Memphis Grizzlies Move For?
While there aren’t that many stars on the move across the league, the likes of Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan could be interesting additions before the playoffs. The Grizzlies could also add a player like Myles Turner, but real moves are only possible in the offseason.
LeBron James could be traded this summer. He’s a realistic candidate for a move. There is speculation that Kevin Durant could ask out of Brooklyn once again too. And as an analyst predicted, Joel Embiid could be looking for a new home if the Sixers fail again. There are some really interesting options for the Grizzlies to consider.
