The Prince of the Targaryen dynasty seems to be exuding more horror than charm in House of the Dragon. Or at least that’s what Claire Foy believes.
Foy, who has teamed up with Matt Smith for the first two seasons of the historical drama series The Crown, is also an avid House of the Dragon fan. But Smith’s character from the popular Game of Thrones prequel series gives her the creeps. Although she wanted to root for Daemon Targaryen, Foy often found herself repulsed by The Rouge Prince, something which she wasn’t shy of admitting out loud.

Regardless of her views on Smith’s character though, the British actress is a big Game of Thrones fan and has browsed through the entire show along with its spin-off series.

Claire Foy’s Take on Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon
Speaking to Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Claire Foy revealed her admiration for the House of the Dragon series whilst also pointing out her disgust toward Daemon Targaryen’s character in it. Sure, he’s a ferocious warrior and the prince of his clan, but the horde of atrocious acts he has committed makes it a tad bit difficult to look for the silver lining. And that’s exactly what happened with Foy as she tried to support Smith’s character but failed to do so.
“I was a very committed friend [of Smith’s character] but I disagreed with him in many scenes. I then had to tell [Smith] that I found them disgusting to watch. But yeah, I thought it was great. And it’s gone down really well, what a triumph.”

Claire Foy and Matt Smith in The Crown
While she has watched both House of the Dragon as well as Game of Thrones, her “commitment” towards the latter did falter a bit but the Breathe actress managed to finish both series nevertheless. “It took a huge amount of commitment, which waned towards the end, but I was there for it,” Foy said.
Foy worked alongside Matt Smith in the award-winning series The Crown, wherein she starred as Queen Elizabeth II whereas the latter depicted her husband, Prince Phillip. No wonder Smith’s shift from playing the Duke of Edinburgh to the Prince of Targaryen didn’t sit well with his co-star.
House of the Dragon’s Cruel Prince Daemon Targaryen
The lead character in the Game of Thrones spin-off might be a formidable conqueror who remains unabated in the face of danger, but Daemon Targaryen’s lust for power has also made him indulge in some rather horrifying acts.

Daemon Targaryen on the battlefield in House of the Dragon
From embarking on a brutal killing spree to striking an incestuous relationship with his niece, Daemon seems to have ticked off all the boxes in the who’s-the-most-awful-villain checklist. But then again, his dark, gory side and blood-red wrath are also his salient characteristics. After all, Targaryen’s prince is one of the most important characters on the show.
But at the end of the day, putting up with Targaryen’s behavior in House of the Dragon is not for the faint of heart. As Smith’s co-star admitted, it is simply put, “disgusting to watch.”
Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon can be streamed on HBO Max.
